About Brown Honey

Thirty-two years on the road, packed into one warehouse.

John Honey started in this trade in 1994 as a sales rep for Tim the Toyman. He stayed twelve years - first as a rep, then as manager and partner of the Victorian franchise, then as national sales and operations manager for the whole group.

In 2006 he resigned to go out on his own. First product he ever sold under his own name was a Mr Men book; first customers were the independent newsagents and toy shops who picked up the phone because he'd called the week before with a sample bag from Penguin and Pearson under his arm.

Brown Honey Pty Ltd was incorporated in October 2015 to bring the growing distribution business under one name, one warehouse, and one tidy line on a tax invoice. The categories grew - plush, gifts, trading cards alongside the books - but the approach didn't change.

Thirty-two years in. Trade shows on weekends, opening new accounts on Tuesdays, picking the right Beanie Boo for a country newsagent in March. John still picks every range personally and still answers the phone when a buyer calls.
